Story
I'm taking on Special Stage 1, 15.25 miles, of the Scottish National Trail in aid of Prostate Cancer Research to help set my good friend Campbell Roy off to a great start on his epic journey. Having been a co driver for 45 years I'm well used to cars breaking down so hopefully choosing Stage 1 means I won't! I've had ill health lately myself but thanks to the Cardiology team at Royal Infirmary Edinburgh and a friendly coo donating a valve I'm better equipped for this than at any time in the last 20 years. We all need to support charities such as Prostate Cancer Research because there never was a truer statement whether in rallying or in life, you just do not know what is round the corner.
Campbell may not remember but I first met him on the Scottish Rally in 1986 when I was competing on my first big event, lasting 5 days and as he will be, covering most of Scotland. I'll always remember his advice at service in Huntly Old Mart. He and the late Jimmy Girvan had just had a puncture or mechanical issue I think in Gartly and being a young inquisitive navigator I asked what his total time penalty now was................wrong time, wrong question! I needed a different map to see exactly where I was being asked to go! ;-)
Seriously, Campbell was a huge help to Neil Shanks and myself when we were thrown in to the cauldron that is organising the Scottish Rally Championship and he continues to help me and the Border Counties Rally as well as many other events throughout the country. I'm glad to be helping and hopefully you can too.
Thanks
Davey
