Story
I first met Sharon at a Networx4Business meeting. Over the next two years, listening to stories from Sharon, Becca and the people Wirral Mencap support inspired me to do more than just listen.
Hearing first-hand about the difference Wirral Mencap makes to real everyday people brought into focus how important this local, independently funded work is. These aren’t unusual services, it's about reducing isolation, offering practical courses, and supporting families and carers, amounting to real improvements to everyday lives.
So motivated by this, alongside a desire to impress my two year old daughter and get back into exercise, I’ll be completing Chester Triathlon on 7th June 2026 to raise funds for Wirral Mencap.
If you can, please donate whatever you can afford or share this page to help it reach more people. Any contribution, large or small, directly supports Wirral Mencap’s ability to continue offering courses, companionship and practical help to adults with learning disabilities and their carers.
About Wirral Mencap
Wirral Mencap is a local independent charity that supports adults with learning disabilities, as well as their families and carers, on the Wirral. It is often assumed that, as a ‘Mencap’ group, the charity is well-resourced. However, we are in fact completely independent. We raise all our own funds and are governed by local people. We are affiliated to The Royal Mencap Society solely by way of our mission.
Wirral Mencap provides opportunities and support that reduce isolation, provide information and advice, and enhance quality of life for people with learning disabilities in the local area. We also offer a wide range of courses, from the Great Friendship Course to Money Skills and much more.
