Story

** Update **

Well I almost made it...

At the weekend I attempted to walk up and down Pen-Y-Fan (the highest mountain in South Wales) 10 times in 24 hours. The good news is that it didn't rain; the bad news was that all but the last climb was in high winds and an icy cold mist which reduced visibility to a few metres.

Unfortunately a bad hip injury 10 minutes into the 1st ascent made for very painful going, and a knee injury in my other leg on climb 7 slowed me down significantly - This was, without a doubt, the most physically difficult thing I've ever done. However I did manage 9 out of the targeted 10 climbs and the sun did come out and clear the mist for the final one so I finally managed to get some photos from the summit! Well done to Martin and Andy who completed all 10 climbs with about 25 minutes to spare - an amazing achievement!

I was doing this to raise money for Macmillan in memory of Julian Slaney, who passed away just over 5 years ago. If you have already donated then thank you so much - I genuinely didn't expect to get anywhere near my target of £500 so to exceed it is amazing.

** Original Post **

On the 9th May, along with a couple of friends, I'll be attempting to walk up Pen-Y-Fan (the highest mountain in South Wales) as many times as possible in 24 hours (hopefully 10 times!).

For information about the walk itself, see https://www.10yfan.com/

As well as being a good, possibly fun, probably painful, challenge, I'm doing this to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. They are BHNs chosen charity this year, but more than that, provided a lot of support to Julian Slaney and his family before he passed away in April 2021 - he was a wonderful colleague, manager and above all, friend, and is greatly missed by everyone who knew him.

Thanks for supporting my fundraising - Macmillan's mission is to do whatever it takes to help everyone living with cancer across the UK get the support they need right now and transform cancer care for everyone who will be diagnosed in the future. The number of people diagnosed with cancer is growing, and every one of them needs the best support to meet their unique needs.
