Story
David & Louise’s Ben Nevis Challenge for Deaf Connexions
We are David and Louise, and we’ve decided to take on one of the biggest challenges of our lives — climbing to the summit of Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK — to raise money for Deaf Connexions, a fantastic local deaf charity that supports deaf people and their families in our community.
This is a huge personal challenge for us, as we’ll be facing our fear of heights. But we are determined to reach the summit for such an important cause. If you can, please consider donating £5 or £10 — every small amount helps us get closer to our £1,500 goal and makes a real difference.
Deaf Connexions provides vital communication access, support services, social groups, and informative workshops, including cancer awareness and wellbeing sessions. These services help deaf people stay connected, supported, and informed — making a real difference to everyday life.
We’ve lost our Deaf Centre because the building is no longer safe. It wasn’t just a building — it was our community’s safe space.
Deaf Connexions is now renting a temporary building after struggling to find an accessible space that meets deaf people’s needs — bringing extra cost and uncertainty.
Your donation will help keep vital support going and ensure our deaf community still has somewhere to belong.
Having grown up using a deaf centre ourselves, we know just how important these spaces are. As parents of CODA (Children of Deaf Adults), this challenge is deeply personal. It’s our way of helping Deaf Connexions continue their incredible work, support mental wellbeing, and build a stronger, more connected future for the next generation.
We’ll be climbing Ben Nevis on Saturday 12th September as part of a group of 20 people. Our personal target is £1,500, contributing towards an overall fundraising goal of £10,000.
Training has already begun (walking boots on 👣), and we’re committed to reaching the summit — every step taken with the deaf community in mind. It won’t be easy, but every step will be worth it for such an important cause.
Any donation, big or small, will make a huge difference.
Thank you so much for your support — and please help us by sharing our page.
