Support the Goldfingers Team on their Epic 68-Mile Charity Hike!
The Goldfingers team is taking on an incredible challenge: Over 60-miles hiking from Buckingham Palace in London to the Palace Pier in Brighton! This inspiring group of everyday middle-aged guys is known for doing extraordinary things to raise money for charity.
A Track Record of Triumph:
Last year, Goldfingers tackled the National 3 Peaks Challenge, conquering the UK’s three highest peaks in under 30 hours. Their determination and teamwork raised an amazing £6,800 for the mental health charity MIND. Now, they’re pushing themselves even further by walking circa 68 miles to support the remarkable local charity, ESTEEM.
Why ESTEEM?
ESTEEM is a Sussex-based charity dedicated to empowering young adults aged 14–26. Through mentorship, skill-building, and community support, ESTEEM helps young people gain confidence and improve their well-being.
At the heart of ESTEEM is The Old School House, the last remaining youth center in West Sussex. However, this vital space is under threat—the council plans to sell it. To secure its future, ESTEEM needs to raise £500,000 by November 2025.
Cat Vizor, Chief Officer at Esteem commented "We're incredibly grateful to the Goldfingers team for taking on this epic 50-mile challenge in support of Esteem. Their determination and generosity will directly help us secure a permanent home for our youth centre in Sussex, ensuring we can continue providing vital opportunities for personal growth, community, and support. Every step they take from Buckingham Palace to Brighton's Palace Pier brings us closer to safeguarding Esteem's building, a space that has transformed so many young lives. Thank you to David, Captain Welsh, and the entire team for being champions of young people's futures!"
The Team’s Motivation:
Captain Welsh, a the driving force behind the team, shared his thoughts on the challenge:
“These guys are truly incredible. When I suggested the 3 Peaks Challenge last year, I was blown away by the support. The camaraderie was amazing as we dragged each other from Scotland to Wales across 23 miles of the toughest terrain imaginable. Honestly, I thought most of them had blocked my number—I couldn’t believe it when they agreed to this!”
Fellow hiker and long-time ESTEEM supporter David Beaken added:
“When I visited The Old School House, I saw how incredible it is—a true lifeline for young people, run by inspiring staff and volunteers. I’ve wanted to help ever since. I did, however, assume the route from London to Brighton would be mostly downhill—north to south, right? Then I was reminded about a little obstacle called The South Downs...!”
