Stornoway - Tarbert Run · 29 June 2024

We are My Name'5 Doddie Foundation and we're absolutely committed to our goal: A World Free of MND. We will leave no stone unturned in the relentless pursuit of this goal as we fund, guide and enable the smartest, most efficient MND research to catalyse a cure for motor neuron disease.

Story

I’m running from Stornoway to Tarbert on Saturday 29th June to raise money for My Name'5 Doddie Foundation. The late Doddie Weir’s foundation gives support to those who are battling MND and also provides funding for research into a cure for the disease.

Sadly, a number of former rugby players have had to battle MND including Doddie, Joost Van Der Westhuizen, Ed slater and of course Rob Burrow who very sadly passed away recently. Donnie Graham, a Stornoway RFC legend and true rugby man, is also going through his own battle with the disease.

The run itself should be just shy of 60km. A distance that probably wouldn’t be a massive undertaking for a seasoned runner, however a seasoned runner I definitely am not. Even after a considerable amount of training I feel wildly unprepared for this but I’m sure it’ll be fine, what’s the worst that could happen.

I’ve no idea how long the run will take but if anyones fancies a beer in Tarbert that evening I’ll hopefully arrive before closing time. Thank you so much in advance for your donations.
