Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Last Christmas, my wonderful (!) children surprised me with a gift I never expected—they entered me into my first-ever marathon: the Loch Ness Marathon, taking place at the end of September.
So, I’ve spent the past eight months lacing up my running shoes and heading out in all kinds of weather, training hard for the challenge ahead. My original plan was simple: run the marathon for fun and tick off a personal achievement of running 26.2 miles but my feelings changed after a phone call with one of my friends of over 30 years.
Jennifer was recently diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer. She’s currently undergoing treatment at the incredible Beatson Cancer Centre in Glasgow, and her words about the care she’s receiving have stayed with me. She is full of with gratitude for the world-class treatment she’s receiving, entirely free of charge, and the compassionate team of nurses, oncologists, and staff who are helping her fight this awful disease.
Hearing her story, I realised I wanted running the marathon to be about more than just personal accomplishment. I wanted to run for something bigger—for Jennifer, and for the thousands of others who rely on the Beatson’s life-saving services.
So, I’ve decided to use my marathon journey to raise funds for the Beatson Cancer Charity. This incredible organisation supports cancer patients across Glasgow and the West of Scotland, and I know many of you reading this will have your own stories of how they’ve helped someone you love.
If you’re able to support me in reaching my fundraising target, it would mean the world—not just to me, but to everyone who depends on the Beatson’s care and compassion.
Thank you for reading and thank you for any support you can give.
