As some of may already know I unfortunately lost my mother in recent weeks to frontal temporal dementia which is one of the lesser known types of Alzheimer’s disease that has recently had more awareness in the media since the Actor Bruce Willis was diagnosed with it also.
Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) is a rare and devastating condition that affects the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain, leading to profound changes in personality, behavior, and language. Unlike other forms of dementia, memory loss is less common in the early stages, but the impact on daily life is equally severe. FTD often begins at a younger age, typically between 45 and 65, and progresses relentlessly, leaving families grappling with its challenges.
My mum bravely faced this cruel disease, enduring its effects with strength and dignity. Her journey highlighted the urgent need for greater awareness, research, and support for those affected by FTD. By sharing her story, I hope to honor her memory and contribute to the fight against this condition, ensuring that others receive the care and understanding they deserve.
Every 3 minutes dementia steals a happily ever after. Research is our only chance of changing the ending for people affected by dementia.
We are the UK's leading dementia research charity. We exist for a cure.
Your donation helps our scientists and researchers find new ways to diagnose dementia, develop new treatments and find a cure for dementia.
