Story

In Memory of Sharron Harris

We I say we but my wife's family had the traumatic time of caring for Sharron, her big sister, since she had her first major stroke last July, 2025. A period of recovery was ongoing until a fateful day in November, 11th to be precise that Sharron suffered another stroke, unfortunately Sharron never regained consciousness after she was placed into a coma for her own health and wellbeing.

There was the horrendous period of visiting Sharron as a family 24hrs a day via shifts at Scunthorpe ICU, who I have to say, the staff, nurses, doctors were amazing with their ongoing support, care and thoughtfulness to Sharron and us. There were many hours spent by her bedside watching the ventilator work, tubes and monitors all around her keeping Sharron restful and alive. During this time we were shown scans which did not paint a good picture in fact it painted a very bleak picture and at this point the realisation that she isn't going to recover hit home.

Eventually Sharron was transferred to Lindsey Lodge for palliative care and in the early hours of Wednesday 26 November she left us.

During a period of visiting at Sharon's bedside i decided i wanted to do something in terms of fund raising for Lindsey Lodge as a thank you to the staff for the service provided. Lindsey Lodge Hospice and Healthcare has been providing high quality, specialist palliative care and wellbeing services to local people and families living with progressive life limiting illnesses for over 30 years.

They do an incredible job in the most heart breaking of circumstances supporting families who are going through the worst imaginable pain and suffering whether that's for a grand parent, mother, father, son or Big Sister. They provide a service i can only admire with the upmost of gratitude and respect so with the help of some friends we aim to raise as much as we can in 2026 for them.

Me and my friends, Craig, Ian, Chris, Mike, Andy, Ben and Ash between us will run starting this week a minimum of four half marathons this year starting with the first one on Sunday 1st March around Scunthorpe. The plan then is to run in Leeds on 10 May, Grimsby on 7 June and Lincoln on 4 October with an aim to see if we can manage one in July\August as well.

To say we are not athletes is not doing them or me a disservice and i hope they won't be offended so its a challenge for us, four of us are running the Scunthorpe run at a combined age of 192yrs.

So i ask and request your support for us for what i believe is a worthwhile cause, any amount not matter how small or big would be gratefully received, I've set a modest target but hope to smash through it sometime this year, i thank you now for taking the time to read this and for any donation\pledge you give.

RIP Sharron.
