David's London Marathon Fundraiser for ME Research UK

David Fardon is raising money for ME Research UK

London Marathon 2027 - Saturday · 24 April 2027 · Start fundraising for this event

ME Research UK exists solely to fund high quality biomedical studies into the causes and treatment of ME/CFS. This illness affects over 400,000 people in the UK but is neither well understood nor, in many cases, properly recognised. We fund highly regarded, peer-reviewed research worldwide.

Story

I am very excited to be Running the iconic London Marathon on 24th April 2027 to raise money for an incredible charity: ME Research UK.

ME (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis), or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, blights the lives of over 400,000 people in UK today. The smallest exertion can floor them; their joints and muscles ache unbearably; restful sleep eludes them; and ‘brain fog’ clouds their thinking. It changes lives drastically – disrupting study; making work impossible; and straining family relations to breaking point. Many sufferers cannot leave their homes. There is no known cure. Please help us to help them.

Sandra my wife has suffered from this cruel and much misunderstood illness for over 18 years. As her husband and carer, I have seen how much this illness has raken from her both mentally and physically. It is therefore a charity very close to my heart.

There is so much research needed to understand this illness which is why I have chosen ME Research UK

."....doctors do not treat us and science does not study us. How could a disease this common and this devastating have been forgotten by medicine?" Jennifer Brea

Only biomedical research can find the causes of ME/CFS, improve diagnosis and treatment, and, ultimately, arrive at a cure. That’s why research is our focus.

We've awarded 64 full grants and 5 PhD-level awards since 2000 and invested over £3.5million. But research is expensive and becoming more so every day. That’s the challenge we face, and that’s why we need your help.
