Dave's Story
About a year ago I joined the Libraries Unlimited charity that run the 54 libraries across Devon and Torbay. Some libraries are big and some are small, but I soon found that all of them had the same ethos, that every week they help their local communities by providing a safe, warm and friendly space for both young and the not-so-young to enjoy a wide variety of activities and events.
From toddler story time to seated yoga, from lego building to local history groups, wine clubs to job clubs, computers, printers and books... lots of books!
Charitable donations are so important to keep these services alive in these economically challenging times, so, in April having reached the grand old age of three score and five, I decided to find a way I could help fundraise by stepping up to take on the daunting challenge of two triathlons this year. The first, a beginners level on the 8th June at Blenheim Palace, in Oxfordshire, then train for a sprint triathlon on the 31st August back in Devon at Roadford Lake near Lifton (that's where the famous Devon custard has been made for over 100 years. I hope that's not what we're swimming in!!)
I'm not a swimmer or cyclist, or runner but hopeful that with my passion and determination, and your kindness and generosity we can raise enough donations this year to keep as many of these services available to the people who really need and appreciate them, such as the 'Knitters and Natters', the Wellbeing Community Cafe, and the Rainbow Girl Guides.
No matter whether the donation be large or small it will all be very gratefully received.
Thank you
Dave
