24 Peaks Challenge · 26 July 2024

Motivation is a global disability and development charity. Our wheelchairs, training and services provide opportunities that transform the lives of disabled people in developing countries.

Story

In 2024, I will be trekking for 24 hours across two days, conquering 24 peaks in the UK's breathtaking Lake District. Among these peaks is the iconic Scafell Pike, England’s highest summit. I will be hiking over 51 km which, after years of working from a desk chair, will test my endurance and strength to the maximum. Rather ominously this challenge is categorised as "Extreme" by Charity Challenge - take a look here: https://www.charitychallenge.com/expedition/3861/24-Peaks.

Why am I doing this? For two reasons. The first, because I want to start the next phase of my life with a bang. I have recently retired from Deloitte after a career spanning 30 years and what better way to mark it than a big physical challenge. The second, because it’s an opportunity to make a meaningful impact, as I and my fellow hikers will be raising funds for Motivation, https://www.motivation.org.uk, an incredible international development charity and social enterprise, with a 30-year history of providing the right wheelchair in the right way.

As a Trustee of Motivation, I’ve witnessed first hand the impact of their work. The difference a well-designed, well-fitted wheelchair can make to a disabled child or adult can be truly life-changing. It means that an individual can finally live a life where they are not just surviving, but thriving. With enhanced independence and confidence, they can participate and be included in their family and community, often for the very first time.

If you would like to sponsor me, I would be most grateful for any support you might be able to give. Your donation, no matter how big or small, will go on to make a difference in the lives of those who face challenges every single day, far greater than any mountain.

Thank you very much indeed.
