The British Lymphology Society is a dynamic and innovative body providing a strong professional voice and support for those involved in the care and treatment of people with lymphoedema and related lymphatic disorders, including lipoedema. The Society seeks to achieve high standards of care and equitable access to treatment across the UK and promotes early detection and intervention and, where appropriate, screening and prevention. The Society was established in November of 1985, originally as the British Lymphology Interest Group (BLIG).

Story

Thank you for visiting this page.

Towards the end of his life, David had increasingly severe lymphoedema. He was helped by some of the very few specialist lymphoedema nurses whose care made a big difference to him.

However, what I learned through David’s experience is that there is very little known about how to treat lymphoedema and that few medical professionals know much about it at all. As a consequence, many people do not receive any treatment at all. Those who are fortunate enough to do so, often receive it only after their symptoms have already had a significant impact on their quality of life. It cannot be reversed or cured.

The British Lymphology Society is a body that provides a professional voice and support for those involved in the care and treatment of people with lymphoedema and related lymphatic disorders. It seeks to achieve high standards of care and equitable access to treatment across the UK and promotes early detection and intervention and, where appropriate, screening and prevention.

It also funds much-needed research into understanding and treating lymphatic disorders.

It is not a well-known charity but it does really important work.

For these reasons, I have decided to nominate the BLS as the recipient of donations made in David’s memory.
