Join Wigan & Leigh Hospice on this epic challenge as we trek for four days through this ever-changing landscape and to climb to the top of the massive Chegaga Dunes, where we will witness the desert sun-rise! Together we will conquer the Sahara!

Story

In November 2026 Christine and myself are taking on a massive personal challenge to raise funds for Wigan and Leigh Hospice.

We will be lacing up our walking boots taking on a epic and unforgettable challenge across the Sahara Desert.

Our challenge is to trek for 4 days over approximately 50km in Morocco through the ever changing landscape of the most famous desert in the world.

We will climb to the top of the massive Chigaga Dunes which are 100mtrs high where we will witness the desert sunrise.

With traditional berbers as our guides we’ll experience the delights of the desert first hand, for once in a lifetime experience.

No doubt it will test us both mentally and physically facing temperatures of up to 45 degrees

Christine’s story

In November 2023 my mum was admitted to Wigan Infirmary and was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. Mum was put on end of life care.

Mum was admitted to the Hospice where she spent her final days.

The day mum went into the hospice is one I will never forget. Mum absolutely loved her room and the beautiful surroundings.

The work they do is truly a gift and I will always be grateful for the wonderful care and compassion they showed my mum in her final journey.

I was thankful that mums final days were ones of comfort peace and dignity.

As a family we cannot thank them enough for all the support, care and kindness they showed to us.

The team were professional thoughtful and gently guided me through my mums final minutes.

The thing about the hospice is that until you need it you don’t really appreciate what it is.

You don’t realise how much funding is needed to keep it running.

The hospice is a place that we will always support just like the hospice supported us.

We wanted to give back to this good cause as we know so many families are helped by the dignity that this specialised care allows for their loved ones.

Any donations would be extremely appreciated no matter how small, every penny will make a difference
