The Turner Syndrome Support Society is a national charity caring for the needs of those with Turner syndrome throughout the UK, offering support and information to girls and adult women with TS, their families and friends. The Society also enjoys a good relationship with medical and other specialists to promote a good basis for education and uderstanding of the management of TS.

Story

I will be doing a 15km run each day in February to raise money for the Turner Syndrome Support Society

Any money raised is a bonus but our main goal is to raise awareness for all those affected past, present, future and for all the butterfly babies that didn’t make it.

🦋PLEASE HELP SPREAD AWARENESS🦋

Turner syndrome is a female only genetic disorder & affects 1 in 2,000 pregnancies

only 1-3% of these baby girls will survive to birth

There’s no cure but many symptoms can be treated

Symptoms in girls with Turner syndrome can vary depending on the type of TS and severity

A few common features are:

Grows more slowly

Typically don’t go through puberty

May not grow breast or have periods

Have infertility

Besides short stature girls with TS often have certain physical traits

Increased risk of health conditions

Up to 50% of TS girls are born with a congenital heart condition

Bone conditions are also common with TS

TS increases the risk of autoimmune conditions

Hearing and vision issues are common

And many other conditions are possible/common

Turner syndrome cannot be prevented or isn’t inherited, it’s just a random condition when there’s an error in the formation of reproductive cells.

Nearly all girls and women with Turner Syndrome require ongoing medical care from a variety of specialists. Regular check-ups and appropriate care can help most girls and women lead relatively healthy, independent lives.

Turner syndrome girls are called Butterflies because they represent strength, perseverance and hope 🦋
