Story
Well, we all thought that the Elizabeth line, all 60 miles plus of it over two days, would be enough to force us to hang our battered trainers up for good.
And here we are - planning yet another assault on our knees and ankles, all in the pursuit of raising much needed funds for Tommy's, a truly remarkable charity.
This will be our (hopefully not too unlucky) 13th TFL walk, and technically counts as two more lines, as Sadiq Khan helpfully rebranded the good old orange Overground loop into six different coloured ones a few years ago. Our route this year will tackle the Mildmay line in the west and north, and the Windrush line in the east and south. So that's two more ticked off by June.
We will be starting bright and early on the 20th June at Clapham Junction, venturing north to Willesden Junction, before embarking eastwards through Hampstead Heath and Camden to Shoreditch and then heading south all the way through Wapping to New Cross and, finally, finishing in Crystal Palace. A conservative estimate is 28 miles, which experience tells us means we'll be hitting the 60,000 step mark.
The main reason for this, other than the challenge this presents, is to raise much needed funds for a variety of baby charities. Having raised over £21,000 for various charities in previous years, this year we are hoping to raise a further £1000 for Tommy’s, a charity whose ground-breaking research has saved countless babies over the years. At least three children we know arrived safely in the world thanks to their groundbreaking care and research.
