Walking the Hammersmith and City and Waterloo and City tube lines · 1 June 2024

Tommy's funds medical research into the causes of premature birth, stillbirth and miscarriage. We’re dedicated to finding causes and treatments to save babies’ lives as well as providing trusted pregnancy and baby loss information and support.

Story

Way back in 2015, we foolishly decided to walk the Victoria line.

'This will never catch on,' people correctly assumed.

Oh, how my feet wish they were right.

Fast forward eight more lines, and we are still at it. In fact, hopefully by the end of June the 1st, we will have walked all eleven of the 'original', by which I mean iconic, London Underground lines. For this year, we are taking on the Hammersmith and City line (the pink one you probably have never used) and, for an extra treat, then trekking along the Thames to tick off the Waterloo and City line (the cyan one you will only have used if you work in Bank). Walk one, get one free.

We thought this would bring the whole madcap adventure to a close. That was, until TFL announced that the orange Overground is being divided up into six quite walkable sub-lines. Thanks a lot, TFL - you better pay for my physio.

So, as we prepare ourselves (and our podiatrists) for an early start in Barking, here are some facts to whet your appetite.

The H&C line has29 stations over 16 miles. It features some of the original 1863 Metropolitan line route. We will walk westwards from Barking to Hammersmith, before then strolling a mere 5.5 miles back east to Waterloo, where will complete the final 1.5 miles to Bank, thus walking the length of two tube lines in a single day. I'm getting tired just typing it.

(And for those interested, the W&C line is only 2 stations - 1.47 miles. A doddle.)

Of course, this is not only for our entertainment - we are raising much needed funds for a vital children's charity, just as we do every year. This time around, it is Tommy's again, a charity that means so much to all of us. Quite staggeringly, last year's Central Line stroll saw us top a scarcely believable £16,000 over ten years. Why stop now?

Please feel free to join us on the day - and spread the word: every share counts more than you know.

With all our love and blister treatments,

D, M, P and T xxxxx
