David's fundraiser for Karibuni Children

David Lynn is raising money for Karibuni Children

Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lakes (Himalayas) · 22 October 2025

We help Kenyan children to fulfil their potential and release themselves from the cycle of poverty, through partnering with locally run projects to support children, who may not otherwise receive an education, to go to school.

Story

My good friend, Andrew (pals since infant school), and I have made a promise to ourselves that, once a year, for as long as we are able, we will attempt at least one of the top mountain treks in the world. Last year we completed Alta Via 1 in the Dolomites and this year we have just completed the Tour du Mont Blanc, ahead of our biggest challenge to date which will be nearly 3 weeks in the Himalayas, to Everest Base Camp. We will reach a height of nearly 6000m and neither of us know how we will react to altitude. Thank you Andrew for introducing me to mountain trekking and importantly for your friendship and at times, much needed support.

As an active fundraiser for the charity I will be using this Himalayan trek to raise funds for Karibuni Children where a number of ex-Barclays colleagues, who are all known to me, are Trustees. I know therefore, that the charity is extremely well-run and that any funds raised are well-managed. It would be terrific if you could help me to raise funds for this great cause by donating via this page. A bit more about Karibuni……

Karibuni Children is a UK Registered Charity which aims to raise awareness about the plight of children living on the streets and in the slums in areas of urban and rural poverty in Kenya; and to raise money to support projects to meet their needs. It currently supports well over 700 children through 6 projects. Sponsored children are supported throughout their education with the aim of ensuring that they acquire a qualification or a skill which will enable them to earn a living and escape from life in the slums.

Karibuni also raises awareness for disadvantaged households in Kenya who lack access to the means necessary to meet their basic needs. This includes the provision of quality education, adult skills and knowledge development, income-generating social enterprises, access to credit, and psychosocial support. The charity celebrates 30 years this year, and have many examples of where they have transformed the lives of young Kenyans.

I’ve set a challenging fundraising target for this trek. Please help me to achieve it and provide support for this fabulous cause.

Thank you

David
