Story
For over 25 years the city and people of Manchester have given me and my family some incredible memories on and off the pitch.
As a city though Manchester has the third highest homeless rate in the UK which is rapidly increasing. Having recently attended my one hundredth United match I would like to give something back to Manchester by making a non-football trip down to Old Trafford out of my own pocket and sleeping outside on a Friday evening in November.
I will be swapping my bed and home comforts (Robbo the dog!) as I try to sleep outside in a big hollow stadium in, no doubt, freezing temperatures with only my sleeping bag (and hipflask!) for warmth.
This is an official Manchester United Foundation project who are hosting their fourth annual Stadium Sleepout in support of vulnerable young people across Greater Manchester. As part of the challenge I will also gain insight into the big issues surrounding homelessness and housing insecurity but, more importantly, what can be done to support in local communities.
Funds raised will go to Manchester United Foundation to support young people who are living in poverty this winter.
If anyone has a spare tenner Team MacAskill would very much appreciate it!
Warmest wishes!
David and family.
