The Long March for Mutaba

We help local communities serve orphaned and vulnerable children in 8 countries in sub-Saharan Africa in communities where the need is at its highest and the support structure at its lowest; mainly through food security, access to health care and education. This gives them hope for the future.

Story

In October I will be doing a Long March (through the Welsh Marches) on Offa’s Dyke. I'm hoping to complete the 177 miles in order to raise funds for the community of Mutaba in Zambia.

In Hands at Work we say we go to communities ‘off the tar road’, in other words to the most isolated and neglected. The community of Mutaba in Zambia is literally 13.5 miles off the tar road, it therefore seems particularly appropriate to be doing the Long March to raise support for Mutaba! Funds raised will go towards providing the 3 Essential Services of food, education and health care for 100 of the most vulnerable children in this community.

Jane and I were very touched visiting Mutaba (then known as Miswa A) in 2019 and it has been amazing to see how the work has developed since, with the construction of a borehole, the establishing of a community garden, and the building of a Care Point, under the leadership of Dorothy, the coordinator, and the team of 24 volunteer Care Workers. All of this has gone on alongside the day-to-day work of the Care Workers caring for these vulnerable children in challenging circumstances. The Care Point is a place of hope, where children are not only fed and cared for, but are allowed to be children, playing with the Care Workers, who know them by name and love them, visiting them in their homes and advocating on their behalf.

Funds raised will go towards providing the 3 Essential Services of food, education and health care for 100 of the most vulnerable children in this community. We don't yet have a Partner to support Mutaba and so any money you are able to give will help this great work to continue.

This is the longest walk I've done for some years, so I'm hoping I'll manage it! Any support you can give will therefore be a great encouragement.
