Story
We have all experienced ourselves or know of someone we care for that battles with mental health .
I’d like to share the story of my little brother - David !
David’s journey began during childhood and the battle in his teenage years .
Now at the age of 42 his path has finally began to change.
David always struggled with how he felt - “not normal” and “different “ from his peers .
No understanding as to why he felt as he did. Substance abuse began and played a factor into feeling normal . This became addiction . This became his normal.
Over the years his mental health spiralled , reaching breaking point many times . Fighting everyday to get clean - he succeeded in 2009. But those “not normal” feelings resurfaced- never going away , they were always there . David suffered psychotic episodes , anxiety, depression and severe anger issues . GP’s prescribed medication. These numbed the symptoms, clouding the route of David’s underlying health issues that he was screaming out for help with .
“Papering over the cracks “
Still fighting his battle to stay away from the wrong stuff continued . The fight to get up , to breath, to live , feeling helpless .
The emotion of taking his own life at the forefront of his mind , the only way he could see to make it all stop . Would he be in a better place ? No longer a burden ? Dark days that only those who have them can understand became more and more !
That day arrived for David……..
I’ve asked him what made him stop ?……
He wanted to live , to continue the fight ! He took that step back - He found help - A voice and mind that understood, who he was , who he wanted to be and how to get there.
Psychiatrists and counselling- David now has a firm diagnosis.
Combined ADHD
And the right medication
David wants to share his journey with the hope he can help just one more soul !
He now sets a challenge to raise awareness and will be competing in the South Coast Ultra challenge - taking place on 6th September 2025 .
His aim to raise funds , awareness and support to those that need it!
The charity he will be supporting is CALM - Campaign Against Living Miserably (Metal health and suicide prevention )
We will be tagging Boys Get Sad too alongside this as they donate a percentage of Merchandise sold to CALM also .
If you are at this paragraph in my blurb then I thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to read .
I am forever grateful to have my little Brother - (who by the way is much bigger than me ) in my life - I can speak to him everyday , hug him when I see him .
Many a tear has been shed - the fear we had as a family incase that call came .
I ask kindly for your support - to donate if you can - but please share the link for his challenge and help David raise that awareness.
Reach out !
It’s good to talk
