Story
My Dad and I are raising money for Bipolar UK, a charity that supports people affected by one of the most misunderstood mental health conditions: bipolar disorder. It is a charity that is really important to both of us. We are headed to Chicago this weekend to run the Chicago Marathon and 5k. After this, I will be headed to Italy to compete in the UTMB Puglia 85km trail race in November!
Bipolar is a complex and often hidden condition. It’s more than mood swings — it affects energy, thinking, behaviour, and the ability to manage everyday life. Many people live for years without knowing they have it, and sadly, it takes an average of 9.5 years to get a correct diagnosis after first seeking help.
But there is hope. With the right diagnosis, support from others, and the right treatment, it is absolutely possible to live a stable, meaningful, and fulfilling life with bipolar disorder. That’s why organisations like Bipolar UK are so vital.
They provide resources, peer support, and guidance to people living with bipolar — and to their families and friends. Their work helps people feel understood, connected, and empowered to manage the condition and move forward with confidence.
In October we are going to be running The Chicago 5k and Marathon (one each!) in aid of this charity that can make a real difference to the lives of those impacted directly and indirectly.
It is David's 4th Major Marathon as a Time Qualified Runner and Richard's 277th timed 5k (276 are Park Runs!). Its been 10 years since we both travelled internationally to run together and race is on for who can get a PB.....
