Arrow break, glass walk, fire walk · 6 September 2025

Loneliness, isolation and depression are very often problems associated with a dementia diagnosis. This can accelerate the progression of symptoms and add significantly to the strains placed on the family carers, many of whom are vulnerable themselves. We provide social activities to help avoid isolation and to build a community that share problems and experiences to enable all to live well with dementia. We do this through bimonthly get-togethers with entertainment and activities to support both mental and physical well-being. We provide regular, highly subsidised days out to places of interest. All this gives carers the opportunity to build their support network, make new friends and relax. The cared-for can have some fun and enjoy some welcome distraction from their troubles

Story

Geoff (74) is showing his gratitude for the support the Hardy Group has provided for him and his wife Kathleen over the years. Geoff is doing an arrow break (bending an arrow between his throat and a hard surface until it breaks!), a glass walk (walking bare-footed over a pit of broken glass!) and a fire walk (walking bare foot accross a pit of red-hot coals!).

GEOFF NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT to say thank you to all the hardworking volunteers who run the group and for the encouragement and companionship the group provides.
