Story
My Wife Alison and I will be abseiling down the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth on Saturday 28th September 2024 at 12:00pm, raising money for Young Lives Vs Cancer in memory of Gemma Fay.
Gemma was the daughter of our dear friends Rachel and Stuart and was diagnosed with a rare form of soft tissue cancer (Synovial Sarcoma) in her hip in September 2020. Gemma sadly passed away on 30th July 2023, a few days after her 25th Birthday.
Gemma was a beautiful, kind, loving, clever and inspirational young lady with so many talents and a lust for life. She was loved by all who knew her and especially by her family, friends and dog Barney.
Gemma’s treatment included intense Chemotherapy as an inpatient, Radiotherapy, followed by surgery to remove the tumour and receive a hip replacement. Gemma participated in an Immunotherapy clinical trial at the Royal Marsden, followed by further, more gentle chemo all of which she faced with courage.
We appreciate whatever donation you can make. Thank you so much.
When a child is diagnosed with cancer life becomes full of fear, for them and their family. Fear of treatment, but also of families being torn apart, overwhelming money worries, of having nowhere to turn, no one to talk to.
At Young Lives vs Cancer, we help families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them. But every day 12 more children and young people hear the devastating news they have cancer. We’ll face it all together – but we can’t do it without you.
