Story
Leading a small charity comes with its unique challenges and incredible rewards. When everything aligns, it truly feels like being on top of the world!
To celebrate my birthday and five impactful years working at It takes a City (Cambridge), my daughter and I are taking on an extraordinary personal challenge: we are going wing walking on Saturday 1 August 2026.
This daring adventure marks a milestone worth celebrating.
It takes a City (Cambridge) is dedicated to supporting those experiencing homelessness through both provision of vital services and also through the collaborative work of the Cambridge Homelessness Charter, designed to bring people together to create systemic change in the city.
Crossways, our emergency winter accommodation project offers en-suite rooms in our 20-bed hostel, which is currently undergoing essential refurbishment to improve comfort and dignity for rough sleepers. Beyond shelter, we provide nourishing food, essential items (food, shoes, toiletries) and compassionate support from our experienced team of trauma-informed workers who tailor help to each individual's needs.
Our women’s safe space in the city centre provides crucial services such as showers, laundry facilities, food, and a welcoming community where vulnerable women can find trusted support.
In both services we work collaboratively with specialist services addressing mental health, physical health, sexual health, and substance use challenges to ensure holistic care.
We invite you to join us in this journey by sponsoring my wing walking challenge. Your generous support will directly fund these life-changing projects that restore hope and rebuild lives. My target is £2,000 — every contribution brings us closer to transforming more futures in Cambridge.
Together, we can make a profound difference because truly, it takes a city to end homelessness.
Thank you to my lovely husband who has bought me the experience as a birthday gift so every penny raised will go to the charity.
