David's fundraiser for Red Balloon Educational Trust

David Stopps is raising money for Red Balloon Educational Trust

Having my hair shaved off · 6 September 2026

Red Balloon Educational Trust helps young people who aren't able to go to mainstream school right now because of trauma like severe bullying, mental ill-health and SEND. We help them get back on their feet, live happier, fuller lives and re-engage with education.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I will be having my hair shaved (what's left of it) in Aylesbury Market Square at 4.30pm on Sunday 6 September 2026 following the Dung Beatles free Magical Mystery Trailer Tour performance (4.00pm to 4.30pm). All money raised will go to the Red Balloon Educational Trust which is a charity in Aylesbury based in my former home at 15 Walton Terrace (Next to the Bricklayers Arms).

Red Balloon does fantastic work teaching children and teenagers who cannot cope with going to school. Music is a big part of what they do and they have created a recording studio/music room in the house. I was surprised and honoured when the amazing Jane Cole, who runs Red Balloon Aylesbury, asked me to open the charity. The photo shows Jane and myself cutting the ribbon in September 2025.

This house is quite famous. It's where Howard Jones wrote and recorded demos for his most successful album, Dream Into Action, which was a worldwide smash going top ten in many countries in the world in 1985, including UK, Japan and USA. It's also the house where Fish fired me when I was managing Marillion in 1982!

In 2014 I was greatly humbled to be awarded the status of Honorary Freeman of Aylesbury, which was the first such award in 42 years. I think it grants me the right to herd sheep down the High Street, so I guess it's fitting that I'm getting my head shaved in the Market Square. It would be great to see you there.
