Huntington's Disease Association England and Wales exists to support anyone who is affected by Huntington's disease. It pursues the best possible care; provides training and advice to families and professionals; raises awareness, and promotes research towards better treatment and care.

Story

A ride on my bike to the Welsh coast seemed like a good idea in June but a distance of 104 miles in a day, with plenty of hills, seemed out of my league!

Marshalling at this year’s Measham Rally, the inaugural event on the VSCC calendar, a chat with David Leigh made up my mind, so I’m riding and raising money in aid of David’s charity, the Huntington’s Disease Association.

Huntington’s Disease is an illness caused by a faulty gene - every child conceived naturally to a parent who carries the Huntington’s gene has a 50% chance of inheriting it. David was diagnosed with the disease in January 2021 and his sister Fiona shortly after. The symptoms of the disease vary widely, and even people in the same family may be affected differently. However, changes usually affect three main areas (movement, cognition and behaviour).

David’s steadfast enthusiasm and resilience made an impression on me and I am sure I am not alone. Cars have and continue to play a massive role in his life – long may this continue!

The amount raised will go to supporting those families in need of care, so please help by supporting me and donating.
