David's fundraiser for rare people - the research charity

David Wicken is raising money for rare people - the research charity

Brighton 10K 2026 · 12 April 2026 ·

Rare People – The Research Charity brings hope to those affected by rare genetic neurodevelopmental conditions — illnesses so uncommon that most are told there’s no chance of a treatment. The first of many studies we will fund, is looking at a potential treatment for DeSanto-Shinawi Syndrome

On Sunday 12 April I am putting on my trainers to part in Marathon weekend’s 10km run which starts at Hove Lawns.

I am running for Rare People which is a new charity set up recently here in Hove by Professor Rob Galloway.

Rare People fund vital research into rare genetic conditions that affect brain development in children. These conditions are so uncommon with most having never been studied and often families are told that ‘nothing can be done’.

Rare People is funding innovative research using AI and data driven science to identify promising treatments faster for the children affected by these rare conditions.

It would be awesome if you would sponsor me to support this amazing new charity which brings real hope to these children and their families.
