Story
I’m taking on a 109km (68 miles) walk across Devon in 24 hours — from Westward Ho! to Paignton — to raise funds for The Devon Clinic, a mental health charity that provides real, one-to-one support for people living with anxiety, trauma, depression, and the effects of domestic abuse across the county.
This isn’t something I’ve decided lightly. I run a business, I’ve got a family, and like most people I’m genuinely short on time. Fitting the training in means early mornings, late evenings, and making better use of the margins of the day — but that feels like a small price to pay when you consider the impact this charity has on people who are really struggling.
The walk will take us over Dartmoor around sunrise, so the toughest section will be crossed in daylight. It’s a serious physical challenge, but it’s also very deliberate and well planned — not a whim.
£1,000 funds around 67 hours of therapy. That’s not admin or awareness — that’s real conversations, real help, and real outcomes for people who might otherwise be waiting far too long. My personal fundraising target is £1,000, but every extra pound raised helps the clinic support more people and reduce waiting times across Devon.
By the time of the challenge I’ll be nearly 50, juggling work, life, and training as best I can. This is about commitment, consistency, and doing something meaningful alongside everything else — not stepping away from it.
The walk takes place on 19–20 June 2026. If this becomes an annual event, the ongoing support of sponsors could genuinely help secure the clinic’s future.
If you’re able to donate, share, or support in any way, it really does make a difference. Thank you.
