Story
Hello, my name is David and I will be proudly taking part in the black country half marathon on Saturday 4th July 2026.
I will be running to raise funds for Dementia UK, a charity very personal to me and my family.
My father Kevin was diagnosed with Dementia in 2021 and this diagnosis shattered us as a family and is still extremely hard to comprehend.
My father living with Dementia has taught me that it’s okay to feel many things at once such as to love, to grieve and to feel extremely overwhelmed. Dementia doesn’t just affect one person, it impacts everyone who cares and I have found it is ok for me personally to be overwhelmed.
We had to make the decision as a family to place my father in a specialist care home as we were unable to cope with his progessing Dementia and the challenges every single day brought us.
We are doing our best as a family, learning as we go, and holding on to the moments of connection we still have as day by day another memory is potentially lost and another part of my father fades away.
Any donation little or large would be extremely appreciated towards this fundraiser and I hope in the near future we can finally find a cure for Dementia.
Thank you!
