Story
Each year we do a charity hike, and this year we are raising money for a wonderful charity, Your Emotional Support Service based in Uttoxeter Staffordshire. We had a couple of routes in mind but due to poor weather we decided to stay on the lower fells and took on the Greenburn Horseshoe.
Although we started off on the fog we finished on Helm Crag and the views opened up this year. Last year the conditions at Buttermere were no better, so we might look at the timing for next year. Last year by lucky happenstance we chanced on 3 hikers stuck on Haystacks, so our challenge turned to rescue as we helped guide them down safely to Gatesgarth, but this year we didn't need to rescue anyone suck on the Fells.
This years Challenge Day was Tuesday 16th June 2026, and the planned dates for our training schedule were:
1st February Lichfield to Chasewater Greenway 20km
19th April Caer Caradoc Loop 20km
22nd May Vale of Edale Loop 23km
Our training will take us over some familiar ground to prepare the legs and we'll post updates following each session to let you know where we've been and how we got on, but expect to see us out and about in the Peak District and Wales.
Here we are at the summit of Snowdon following our training hike last May. We went up via the Watkin's Path and came down via the South Ridge. As you can see the weather was perfect for us.

YESS provides crucial mental health support for young people and adults, offering a safe space to be heard. A session with a counselor costs YESS £65, your donation can contribute to subsidising these sessions. Last year, we reached over 1,000 people, helping them build resilience and hope. “Talking to my counselor gave me hope when I had none,” shared one client. Your donation isn’t just financial—it's the gift of hope. Help us continue making a difference. Together, we can ensure no one faces their challenges alone.
