I'm running the Richard Burton 10K run in aid of our prickly friends! 🦔

Hedgehogs in Wales need our help more than ever. These much-loved mammals are now officially vulnerable to extinction in the UK . In the 1950s, there were an estimated 30 million hedgehogs across the UK. Today, that number has plummeted to less than one million .

The reasons are heartbreaking: habitat loss, busy roads, fences blocking their paths, and climate change are all taking their toll . These are creatures that can travel up to 2km every night — but they can't do that if our gardens and green spaces are sealed off .

That's why I'm doing this fun run in aid of a local Welsh hedgehog charity......Hedgehog Helpline. The money raised will go directly towards rescuing, rehabilitating, and releasing sick, injured, and orphaned hedgehogs back into the wild. It will also support awareness and education work, helping more people learn simple things they can do to help — like leaving a shallow dish of water in the garden, checking for hedgehogs before strimming, or cutting a 13cm "hedgehog highway" in the garden fence .

Every donation, no matter how small, makes a difference, even just the price of a pint! Thank you for supporting our spikey little neighbours. 🦔

Yn y 1950au, amcangyfrifwyd bod 30 miliwn o ddraenogod ledled y DU. Heddiw, mae'r nifer hwnnw wedi plymio i lai nag un filiwn.

Mae'r rhesymau'n dorcalonnus: mae colli cynefinoedd, ffyrdd prysur, ffensys yn rhwystro eu llwybrau, a newid hinsawdd i gyd yn cymryd eu toll. Mae'r rhain yn greaduriaid a all deithio hyd at 2km bob nos - ond mae nhw ddim allut wneud ‘na os yw ein gerddi a'n mannau gwyrdd wedi'u selio.

Dyna pam rwy'n gwneud y ras hwyl hon er budd elusen draenogod leol yng Nghymru......Llinell Gymorth Draenogod. Bydd yr arian a godir yn mynd yn uniongyrchol tuag at achub, adsefydlu a rhyddhau draenogod sâl, anafedig ac amddifad yn ôl i'r gwyllt. Bydd e’n hefyd yn cefnogi gwaith ymwybyddiaeth ac addysg, gan helpu mwy o bobl i ddysgu pethau syml I helpu nhw - fel gadael dysgl fas o ddŵr yn yr ardd, gwirio am ddraenogod cyn strimio y gwair, neu dorri "priffordd draenogod" 13cm yn ffens yr ardd.
