Story
31st May, I’ll be running the Manchester Half Marathon.
I wasn’t planning on running this for charity, but after so many people have asked me if I was, I thought properly about it and realised there’s a cause that means a lot to me and to so many people around me. So I’ve decided to run for The dementia society and raise awareness.
This horrible disease has touched the lives of so many people I know, Dementia doesn’t just affect memory,it slowly changes everyday life for both the person living with it and the people around them. Watching someone lose pieces of themselves, their independence, their stories and sometimes even recognition of the people they love is heartbreaking.
One thing I keep thinking about is how important memories are. Life is made up of moments, people and memories, and I feel incredibly lucky to have shared so many amazing memories with the people closest to me ,my beautiful family and my friends. The thought of those memories fading for someone is heartbreaking, which is why I wanted to do something, however small, to help.
One of the friends I’m running with is Claire, who I’ve somehow ended up doing some of the most ridiculous running challenges with over the years and have brilliant memories 😍
And one of the people I think about most when I think about memories is my beautiful best friend Sharon, who means the world to me and has been by my side through some of the hardest times in my life with nothing but loyalty, kindness, support and love. She’s a Manchester girl through and through, and in my head one of the reasons I’m doing the Manchester run is so I can hand her that medal at the end,so she has something else from Manchester that her friend has earned for her ❤️
Mo — your Scottish run is coming, I promise 😍
If anyone would like to donate, honestly, even the smallest amount would mean a lot to this amazing charity. Every penny goes towards helping an incredible charity continue supporting people and families living with dementia and funding the work they do every single day.
Thank you for all the encouragement and support already,it genuinely means more than you know. Thankyou xxx❤️
