Story
On Sunday 26th July, I'll be climbing Ben Nevis — the UK's highest mountain at 1,345 metres- to raise money for Samuel's Charity.
Samuel's Charity began because of the experience of Samuel, who died at the age of nine from cancer. Before he died, he was concerned about the other children on his ward and in hospitals across the UK, and he left a legacy dedicated to improving the lives of thousands of children like him. Today, the charity supports children and young people with serious, complex or terminal conditions, whether they are in hospital or at home, providing games, sensory equipment, pain-relieving kit, and the support families need to bring their child home from hospital.
This cause is close to my heart because I know Martin, the charity's Chair, personally through networking. His passion is infectious, and I've seen first-hand how he goes above and beyond to support others. I couldn't think of a better reason to lace up my boots.
I only ask for donations once a year; for every other charity event I take part in, I donate myself. This is that one event, so if you can spare anything at all, it would mean the world.
Every penny makes a real difference: just £17 supports one child on a ward for a whole year.
The climb will take around 7–8 hours and over 4,000 feet of ascent, a challenge for my legs, but nothing compared to what these children and their families face every single day. That thought will keep me putting one foot in front of the other, all the way to the summit.
Thank you in advance for your support.
