At 12:00 on 3rd May I will abseil down Portsmouth's Spinnaker Tower to raise money for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.
I am doing this in memory of Rob Harvey who fenced with me at Romsey Fencing Club and who was the nicest man you could ever hope to know.
He had many strings to his bow and one of them was training and fund raising for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. Talking to some of the many Hearing Dogs volunteers at his funeral I heard that there was an upcoming fund raising abseil so I thought this would be a fun way to raise some extra money in his memory.
My late partner was hearing impaired from the age of eight so I am aware of the many difficulties and frustrations this causes. Although he never had a hearing dog (he had me instead!) I can see how hearing dogs give their users independence, confidence and visibility from this most isolating of disabilities.
I have personally covered all the costs for this abseil so any money you give will go to Hearing Dogs. If you pay any income tax please sign up for gift aid as this gives the charity significant extra money at no extra cost to you.
Finally, I would love as many people as possible to come to support me on the day. The Clean Air Zone doesn't apply to private cars and vans and Portsmouth Harbour train station is very close
tl;dr - Rob was a lovely man. He trained and fund-raised for Hearing Dogs. Hearing Dogs help their users become more independent and less isolated. Please give generously. Come to see me on the day.
