Story
UEA Day Walks Society is undertaking a 28-mile hike on the 31st of May to raise money for the Norfolk Wildlife Trust. The route will follow the River Yare along the Wherryman's Way, starting from Reedham in the early morning and finishing at Norwich Station just before sunset. We encourage students at UEA to take on this challenging route with us and help fundraise for a worthy local charity. Tickets can be found on our SU page: https://www.ueasu.org/events/17985/32048/
About the Norfolk Wildlife Trust:
The NWT (Established 1926) is the oldest Wildlife Trust in the country. They manage over 60 nature reserves and other protected sites in Norfolk including ten kilometres of coastline, nine Norfolk broads, nine National Nature Reserves and five ancient woodlands. The Trust have been key in protecting and restoring the wild spaces that the Day Walks Society frequently enjoys, so we thought it would be appropriate for us to jointly contribute to the future conservation of Norfolk's countryside.
About the Wherryman's Way:
The Wherryman’s Way is in the Broads – Britain’s largest protected wetland. The full 35-mile route follows the course of the River Yare between Norwich and Great Yarmouth and takes its name from the wherry, a large cargo-carrying barge whose elegant black sails were a once common sight on these waters.
