Rebecca's fundraiser for Dundee Community Youth Orchestra

Rebecca Baker is raising money for Dundee Community Youth Orchestra

Dundee Kiltwalk 2025 · 17 August 2025 ·

We are musical group in Dundee aimed at school leavers to 25 year olds who played an instrument at school and want to continue music-making with their peers. Most of our members hadn't picked up their instrument since they left school. We play a wide-ranging repertoire selected to suit our abilities.

Story

Dundee Community Youth Orchestra is a positive and friendly environment that allows young people to continue playing music and their instruments after they have left school.

young people are often left unable to play their instruments after school as loaned instruments must be returned and pupils don't have access to their own or that other environments create high expected entry levels making access for people that just want to play for fun harder.

DCYO provides an open, fun and inclusive environment to young people making it possible for them to turn up and enjoy their love for music after school years. The environment is open to anyone and has an amazing support team behind it.

DCYO is entirely funded out of community help so this year Myself and our Musical Director - Meirion are walking 20 miles to raise funds for our awesome community to keep it running and supporting young people.

For me, DCYO has been life changing and the support and kindness from everyone has been huge. The friendships I have formed here have been no short of special. From when I got very ill last year DCYO supported me the entire way and have even made inclusive adaptations to ensure i never have to miss out and can continue doing what i love. My life changed for the better and I want to ensure this group can continue to run and change the lives of other young people too!
