NICE is a leading UK charity transforming the lives of disabled children and adults who have movement disorders such as cerebral palsy and Parkinson’s. We push the boundaries of their potential by teaching them through conductive education, new ways of controlling the effect of their condition.

Story

Thank you for visiting this JustGiving page, created in loving memory of Hugh Charles De-Loyde: a devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather.

Born on 17th April 1935, Hugh enlisted in the Royal Marines in 1952 at the age of 17, where he served with distinction for several years. He took immense pride in his role as a Royal Marine Commando, embracing both the challenges and triumphs that came with the uniform.

In April 1954, at St. John’s Church, he married his beloved Gwendoline Gladys Fagence. Hugh often fondly recalled his days as a Royal Marine Commando and the many adventures he and Gwen shared together across the world.

Over the years their family grew with three children, five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. In April 2024 they celebrated their Platinum 70th wedding anniversary.

Sadly, Hugh passed away on the morning of Thursday 11th September 2025, peacefully at the age of 90. He will be sadly missed and leave a huge hole in our lives but will always be in our hearts and thoughts.

In 2003 Hugh took on the incredible challenge of walking across the Sahara Desert to raise funds for his chosen charity.

Instead of flowers, we invite you to honour Hugh’s legacy by supporting NICE (National Institute for Conductive Education). Your donation will help to continue the work he supported.

Thank you for remembering Hugh in this meaningful way.
