Deaf Services Lanarkshire Needs Your Help

We want to create a warm, safe community hub at Shawhead Community Centre in Coatbridge, Scotland. Our vision is a place where deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals can connect, learn, thrive and integrate with the local community.

But we cannot do this alone. We need your help to make this dream real.

Our Vision

In May 2025, DSL successfully secured Shawhead Community Centre via a Community Asset Transfer from North Lanarkshire Council. At the end of November 2026 we take over the building. Right now, the hub needs essential upgrades to become fully accessible and welcoming. We need to adapt the spaces and install visual alert systems for safety and soundproof rooms for better communication. We plan to make the building accessible and safe for all our service users and extend the car park for the anticipated increased use of the centre.

What the Hub Will Offer

This hub will be a safe space for social gatherings, peer support groups, and cultural events that celebrate deaf identity. It will also serve as a bridge between the deaf and hearing communities, fostering understanding and inclusion.

Why We Need Your Help

We have secured the building and have planning permission approved. We need funds for professional fees and other costs associated with progressing the build plans. Now, we need your help. Your money will pay for the next stage of the development, and every pound brings us closer to opening our doors.
