Running the 2026 London Marathon in Loving Memory of James McCaffrey
In 2025, I was due to take on the challenge of the London Marathon in the WellChild mascots, Nina and Nessa, alongside my friend James McCaffrey. We trained, planned, and looked forward to running side by side to raise money for an incredible cause: WellChild, the national charity for seriously ill children.
But heartbreakingly, James passed away before the marathon. His loss has left a huge hole in the lives of everyone who knew him. James was not just a running pal — he was a loyal friend to many, full of laughter, encouragement, and kindness.
In 2026, I will run the London Marathon in his memory. Every mile I run will be for James, carrying his spirit with me, and for the children and families that WellChild supports every single day.
WellChild does remarkable work, helping children and young people with serious health needs to be cared for at home, with their families, rather than in hospital. They provide nurses, support, helping hand and resources that make an enormous difference to families facing the toughest of times.
By donating to Wellchild, you are not only honouring James’ memory but also helping to give sick children and their families the care, comfort, and hope they so desperately need.
I know James would have been the first to dig deep and donate — and I’d love it if you could join me in doing the same. Whether it’s £5 or £50, every donation will go directly to WellChild and make a real difference.
Despite previous marathons, this will be one of the hardest things I’ve done, but I’ll be fuelled by the memory of a great friend and the knowledge that together, we are helping some of the most deserving families in the UK.
Please support me if you can. Donate, share this page, and help me turn James’ memory into something truly powerful and positive.
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
