Story
Our team Gems Shining Lights are walking the first quarter of the Jurassic Coast Ultra Challenge (25 km) on the 16th May. We are raising money in memory of beautiful Gemma who sadly passed away on 30th July 2023, a few days after her 25th Birthday.
Gemma was diagnosed with a rare form of soft tissue cancer (Synovial Sarcoma) in September 2020.
Gemma was beautiful, kind, loving and clever with so many talents and touched the lives of everyone she met. Her smile and laughter would light up any room.
Gemma’s treatment included intense Chemotherapy as an inpatient, Radiotherapy, followed by an operation to remove the tumour from her hip and receive a hip replacement. Gemma participated in an immunotherapy clinical trial at the Royal Marsden, followed by further, more gentle chemo. Through all this Gemma showed great courage and resilience and would always look on the bright side and made the most of the days she was able to do something nice.
Please donate if you are able. Any amount will be appreciated.
When a child is diagnosed with cancer life becomes full of fear, for them and their family. Fear of treatment, but also of families being torn apart, overwhelming money worries, of having nowhere to turn, no one to talk to.
At Young Lives vs Cancer, we help families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them. But every day 12 more children and young people hear the devastating news they have cancer. We’ll face it all together – but we can’t do it without you.
