Can you help us raise £10,000 towards the construction of BDMLR’s first seal triage unit in North East England? With an ever increasing number of casualties this new facility will enable us to treat growing numbers of young seals in need of help.

Story

FLIPPER FLINGING CALL TO ACTION!🦭

(Please note our building is now constructed and it is the outdoor space which needs some tender loving care… I just couldn’t change the charity bio)

Alright folks, I'm on the scrounge, but for the best possible reason. NEST (North East Seal Triage), working in partnership and under the umbrella of BDMLR, a one-of-a-kind unit in the UK, providing emergency triage care for seals in need. Since opening in January 2025, we’ve already helped 40+ seals return to their colony in the North Sea.

Now, we need your help to make sure our facility is safe, accessible, and ready for the next wave of rescues. Our temporary land needs crucial upgrades, hardcore for safe access, landscaping, furniture for volunteers to take a well earned break and more.

HOW TO HELP? Your donation will directly fund the materials and labour needed to transform our site, ensuring medics have the space they need to work effectively and the outdoor space is more welcoming and more importantly provides easy access for moving and managing our flippered friends.

And here’s where my moment of madness kicked in. Fresh off saying farewell to my mother-in-law, ‘Windward Joan’ in July last year, a force to be reckoned with, as fierce and relentless as the North Sea itself, and with the sheer determination of a seal battling the waves I had one of those “sure, why not?" moments.

I signed up for the ultra marathon thinking it was ‘only’ 27 miles only to discover it was actually 37 miles 😳. So now, in true tribute fashion I’ll be tackling 37 miles of Northumberland’s coastline, soaking up the scenery and reflecting on Joan’s strength, beauty, humour and love (and my own questionable decision-making).

If watching an unfit 50-something take on this absurd challenge in honour of seals and unstoppable women gives you even a hint of joy, please consider donating! Every penny helps NEST and gives me a little more incentive to keep moving.

So get your flippers out and dive deep into those pockets every penny helps NEST, supports our seal rescues and makes sure I don’t turn back halfway through.

Donate, share, and spread the word, let’s make some magic happen for Northumberland’s marine life! 🦭💙

Thank you for your support… every little helps 🥰
