Standing at an astonishing 100 metres above sea level, this is the highest abseil in Portsmouth, and nothing else even comes close.

Story

In July I’ll be doing something that honestly terrifies me: abseiling 100 metres down the side of the Spinnaker Tower.

I don’t love heights. I’m not especially adventurous. And if you’d asked me a year ago whether I’d ever voluntarily step backwards off a very tall building, the answer would have been a firm no. But I’m doing it anyway.

I’m the CEO of Step by Step, a charity that supports young people facing homelessness across the South of England. Every day I meet young people who are dealing with things no young person should have to face on their own – family breakdown, nowhere safe to stay, mental health struggles, and the constant uncertainty of not knowing what tomorrow looks like.

What I also see every day is their courage.

Young people who keep going. Who rebuild their confidence. Who find their way back into education, work and stable homes when someone finally believes in them.

They are the real heroes in this story.

Step by Step is there to give them that chance – through safe accommodation, counselling, and support to get back into education, employment and independent living.

So if I have to face one very scary moment on the side of a tower to help raise awareness and funds for that work, it feels like a pretty small thing to do.

If you’re able to support me with a donation, I’d be incredibly grateful. Every contribution helps Step by Step continue supporting young people to rebuild their lives.

And if you see me at the top of the tower in July… please remind me that this was my idea.
