Story
In April 2026, I will be taking on the huge challenge of running the London Landmarks Half Marathon in support of The Compassionate Friends, a charity that ensures no bereaved parent has to grieve alone.
This run is in memory of my son, Terry Ellis (f36). We lost Terry in May 2024, just four months after his cancer diagnosis in January. In that short space of time, life changed forever.
After ten years of service in the Army, Terry had just begun to build a new life and career. He was a husband and a devoted father to three young girls, and his humour, energy, and presence leave an ache that words can never fully express. He is missed by everyone who knew him.
I’m not sure I’m fit enough to run a half marathon. There may be moments when running isn’t possible, when I have to walk some—or even most—of it. But I will do it, one step at a time, because some things matter more than comfort or confidence.
I’m running in support of The Compassionate Friends, a charity that truly understands this journey. They offer a space where grief is met with kindness, not explanations or expectations—a place where a child’s name is spoken, remembered, and honoured.
Each mile will be a moment of reflection: for Terry, for the love that endures, and for all families walking a similar road. This run isn’t about distance or speed, but about remembrance, connection, and quiet strength.
I would not have coped without the support of the parents in this group—a group no one should ever have to be part of 💔.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story, and thank you from my heart for any donation you are able to give.
