I'm dusting off my long-unused running shoes and training hard for the Manchester 10k to raise money for a great cause - the North West Air Ambulance charity.

The NWAA service receive no government or NHS funding and need to raise at least £12 million a year to remain operational. They are celebrating their 25th anniversary this year and have been called out on more than 24,500 missions since 1999 - an average of 3 times a day.

Here's how your donation can help:

* £6 can pay for a bougie to help guide a breathing tube into a patient airway

*£17 could buy a 1-litre portable oxygen canister to help someone with breathing difficulties

*£25 could pay for a warming blanket to help regulate the temperature of a severe trauma patient

*£50 could fund one set of Rapid Sequence Intubation (RS) drugs, used by the crew to manage a patient's airway

NWAA exists to fly the most advanced crew and medical equipment to patients when and where they need it most, quite simply bringing the hospital to the patient. It is only thanks to the generosity of people like you that their helicopters and critical care vehicles can operate 365 days a year with highly skilled specialist doctors and critical care paramedics on board.
