The Kirkwood exists to improve the quality of life for local people, against all odds. We help those in our care to live well and make the most of every single day. We make the complex simple by focusing on what's important, and we support families and loved ones to live on and live well.

Story

Hi Guys,

This year I've decided to take on my first full Marathon, at the 2026 Edinburgh Marathon in May. I've decided to run to support the Kirkwood Hospice, in the hopes of raising a very ambitious target of £3,000.

I chose the Kirkwood to support a charity that's been a staple of our local community for as long as I can remember.

I joined the Kirkwood Business Movement in 2025 & was shown around the premises, seeing first hand the quality of care being provided, and hearing all about the care they provide out in the community as well. It's been great to get to know some of their team, understand more about the positive impact they make, and see what our community's support is allowing them to achieve.

Now more than ever, with rising costs & increasing overheads, local charities need our support & I'm hoping that together we can make a small difference.

To get my fundraising off the ground, I've pledged £500 from my company, Plura Mortgage Advice, and will also pledge an additional £1 for every donation I receive before the race in May.

Anything you can give, no matter how big or small, would be so appreciated.

... and to any runners out there, if you fancy dragging me out for a training run, all invitations are welcome!

A Note about the Kirkwood:

"The Kirkwood are here to support anyone affected by a life limiting illness, every step of the way. Right now, over 3,000 people in Kirklees are living with an illness from which they will not recover. Your support means we’re here for them.

The Kirkwood provide specialist care, free of charge, to adults in Kirklees with advanced, progressive illnesses at any time from diagnosis to the end of life, respecting their individual needs and wishes. Care and support is also provided for their family members, friends and carers, both during the illness and after death. Through education, training and partnership with others, we improve care for everyone affected by a life limiting illness."
