Story
It currently takes an average of 9 years to get a diagnosis for endometriosis. My journey to getting a diagnosis was no different. I made countless visits to doctors since I was 11 only to have my symptoms dismissed as "heavy periods". It wasn't until 2024 that I was officially diagnosed with endometriosis (16 years later!). I was finally put on a waiting list for surgery which took another year and 3 months. Endometriosis is a disease that impacts a person's life in so many different ways.
I'm taking part in the Walk for Endo to raise vital funds for Endometriosis UK. I will be aiming to walk 9,000 steps a day to represent the average wait time. There are 1.5 million with endometriosis in the UK, and too many are suffering in silence. By sharing my story and raising funds, I hope to raise money to help fund Endometriosis UK’s support groups, information provision and the helpline. It’s time to campaign for change, fairer treatment and eventually a cure for endometriosis!
