This cause means more to me than I can easily put into words.

I joined Meseret for Women as a trustee just over a year ago, but I have followed the journey of its founder, Rachel Duke, and the charity’s story from the very beginning. I have watched the compassion, determination and sheer hard work behind this charity, and I feel incredibly proud and deeply humbled to now play a small part in supporting it.

Meseret helps vulnerable women and children who have so little support elsewhere. These are mothers who are often facing hardship, judgement and rejection at the very time they need compassion the most. Without the charity’s intervention, some children could be left without a safe home, without education, without protection and, in some cases, at risk of living on the streets.

That is why this matters so deeply to me.

The shame and stigma placed on single mothers must end. A woman should never be made to feel worthless because she is raising a child alone. A child should never have to suffer because of society’s judgement of their mother.

These mothers deserve dignity, safety and the chance to rebuild their lives. Their children deserve warmth, security, education and hope.

Every donation, however small, can help provide food, practical support, a safe roof, protection and the chance of a better future. It can help a mother feel that she has not been forgotten. It can help a child feel safe.

Every single penny raised goes directly towards supporting these mothers and children, which makes every donation incredibly meaningful.

I am doing this because I believe mothers matter. Their circumstances should never define their worth, and no child should be left behind because their mother is struggling alone.
