Dee's Great North Run for Racing Welfare

Great North Run 2024 · 8 September 2024 ·
Last summer, my little brother Jordan Smith very sadly passed away at the age of 29. Jordan had worked in the Horse Racing industry for over 10 years & had worked with some of the most prestigious trainers in the country.
After he passed away, I read the most beautiful article written about him in the Racing Post & learned of the amazing support Racing Welfare had offered his colleagues immediately after he died. I found Jordan's passing very hard but this gave me such comfort.
I am familiar with Racing Welfare with the work we have done with the charity through working at The Wensleydale Heifer, yet over the past year, I have come to learn that Racing Welfare offer the most incredible support to those in the Racing industry with all aspects of life & most specifically in this case- bereavement. I thought this was such invaluable support during a very sad time & I truly believe all industries deserve such a fantastic platform.
And so on Sunday 8th September 2024; in what would of been Jordan's 30th Year, I have decided to take part in the Great North Run to raise money for this amazing charity.
For those who know me... I am NOT a runner!
I started properly in January, recompleting Couch to 5k (after a 2021 lockdown completion!) & I am currently working on a 12 week programme to get me to that all important 13 mile point!
Running is hard! But I am really enjoying the training & where else better to do this than the Yorkshire Dales!
And with seeing myself begin to improve over time (I am very slow!) & knowing that this could raise money to help others in the racing industry fills me with pride & happy memories.
If you can spare anything towards this then I would be incredibly grateful, as will Racing Welfare as it will help them continue this incredible service (...& PLEASE click gift aid if you are a UK Tax Payer!)
Thank You,
Dee x
