Story
On 4th May, I will be taking on the huge challenge of running the Belfast Marathon in aid of Marie Curie. All the money raised will help Marie Curie provide vital care and support to people living with a terminal illness, and their families at the toughest time.
Our dad, Jim Hickey was cared for by Marie Curie in Belfast throughout his illness and in hospice care, where he died in August 2023. My family and I couldn’t have asked for such wonderful care of our father and ourselves during that really difficult time. The staff truly are something out of this world. Their compassion and understanding made the dark days a little lighter.
We can never repay the support they provided to us, but by completing this marathon I hope to raise vital money and awareness of the truly wonderful and important work they do day in and day out.
I’m running this marathon with my cousin Grainne. She too has lost her father to cancer in 2023. We both recognise the importance of the support we have received from hospice care.
Here is where your donations will help:
£3 helps fund a meal for a patient in one of their hospices.
£26 helps fund an hour of bereavement support by phone
or webchat.
£207 helps fund nine hours of overnight nursing care in a patient's home.
Thank you,
